Criss Angel to Open New "Mindfreak" Show at Planet Hollywood Hotel in Las Vegas

Illusionist Criss Angel told the Las Vegas Sun just last week that he’d be announcing his next move soon, a big Vegas show to follow his 10-year run at Luxor, which concludes in October.

Angel made that announcement early Tuesday at his website. A new version of “Criss Angel: Mindfreak” is set to debut Dec. 19 at Planet Hollywood in the newly renamed Criss Angel Theater, formerly the 1,500-capacity PH Showroom on the mezzanine level. The show will run 7 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday, and tickets go on sale Aug. 3.

Angel will produce the new show with Base Entertainment, which also handles “Magic Mike Live” at the Hard Rock Hotel and the upcoming Nitro Circus stunt production coming to Bally’s next year.

“It’s amazing to be back home at Planet Hollywood, where I began ‘Mindfreak’ in 2005. As that TV series changed the trajectory of magic on television, I believe my new show will do the same for live performance, creating a brand-new immersive experience that the world of entertainment has never had,” Angel said in a statement.

The new production will feature more than 75 illusions including 20 never-before-seen effects, combining pop culture with pyrotechnics, LED effects, interactive lobby installations, memorabilia and cutting-edge technology never before used on a live stage, according to the statement.

“Criss Angel’s groundbreaking new show ‘Mindfreak’ is an entirely new approach to magic and solidifies Planet Hollywood’s reputation as a premier destination for the absolute best in live entertainment in Las Vegas,” said Jason Gastwirth, president of entertainment at Caesars Entertainment, which owns and operates Planet Hollywood.

Angel’s current show at Luxor will present its final performance on Oct. 28.
