Louisville, Kentucky is known this week as the Magic Capital of the World, as the Combined Convention of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians has taken over downtown Louisville, Kentucky and beyond. The four evening magic shows in Whitney Hall are open to the public, too, giving local people ample opportunities to witness some of the best magicians and other entertainers in the world.

Performers for the Thursday evening “World Stars of Magic” show were Max Maven, as emcee (and performer); Po-cheng Lai; Martin Lewis; Pat and Mabelle Gako Davison; Kenji Minemura; and Juliana Chen.

Lectures continued on Thursday, by David Deeble (morning), David Ginn (afternoon), and Jay Sankey (late night, after the evening show).

Other highlights of Thursday included: (1) the Annual I.B.M. Business Meeting; (2) magic gatherings in the Dealers Room, to buy and mingle; (3) the second session of the Stage

Competition; and (4) a S.A.M. Life Member Reception.

Of course there was magic in every nook and cranny in and around the hotel. Old friends were anxious to show off their latest moves. Young magicians sought out veteran magicians for advice and encouragement. And tales were told everywhere, both tall and otherwise.

Yes, there is MAGIC IN THE AIR. Take a deep breath and suck it all in, down to your bones. Sleep can wait until later.
