DAY 4: Magic! Magic! Magic! Saturday at Convention

Category:   Posted by: C. DENNIS SCHICK

On Day Four of the I.B.M. convention in Scottsdale, Arizona, magic began at breakfast and ran past midnight — a full day of magic. The annual Merlin Breakfast honored I.B.M. members who had been a member for twenty-five or more consecutive years (Order of Merlin). Other levels are Shield (thirty-five years), Excalibur (fifty), and Excelsior (sixty). The Magic Shops were open all day. There were lectures by Chip Romero and Robert Baxt, as well as a Big Three lecture event where within two-and-a-half hours, people could attend two of three lectures, choosing between Matt Baker, Buster Balloon, and David DeVinci. At 7 pm the winners of the contests were announced and other awards were given, just before the Grand Finale Show, featuring Ken Scott, Michael Finney, Shawn Farquhar, Les Arnold & Dazzle, Kevin James, Rudy Colby, and Les Bubb. After the closing show, there were several attempts to break several Guinness world records. See the August and September issues of The Linking Ring for more photos, reviews, and coverage of the 2019 I.B.M. Convention. Oh yes, registration began at the convention for the 2020 I.B.M. Convention, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The dates are July 8-11, 2020. Mark your calendars now.
