Update on magic in Branson, Missouri

Category:   Posted by: C. DENNIS SCHICK

Recently we received an e-mail and saw a new brochure on some changes in the world of magic in Branson, Missouri -- that lively entertainment and tourism destination in South Central Missouri. So we decided to pass on that information, as well as check up on what else is happening with magic shows and magicians there.

Also, be aware that the entire city of Branson goes into its Holiday Mode on November 1 each year. All the Christmas lights and decorations come out, turning the entire area into a Winter Wonderland. Further, all the shows get out their holiday costumes and music, and get in the spirit for all the visitors as well as for the local citizens.

1.  On the current Andy Williams Moon River Theater brochure is a small photo of comic magician CHIPPER LOWELL, and it implies he will be part of the "Andy Williams Christmas Show." Of course that show features The Lennon Sisters and The Osmond Brothers, and is an annual favorite. We saw it last year and those sibling groups are still as entertaining as ever.

2.  RICK THOMAS is returning to that same theater with HIS Holiday Show, whatever that means. He will be back there November 24 through December 6. Go to his Website for more information: www.rickthomas.com.

3.  Incidentally, Rick Thomas is also appearing with the Masters of Illusion LIVE on tour, October 23-November 8. Check out that tour schedule on their Website (www.Mastersofillusion.com) or on Thomas's.

4.  KIRBY VANBURCH and BAMBI are performing their new show -- "Magic...Up Close & Personal" -- at the Lodge of the Ozarks on the famous strip, Highway 76. Their show is at 2 pm Tuesday through Saturday, and a dinner show at 8 pm Tuesday through Sunday. We understand Kirby's former exotic cats are in an animal preserve in Missouri now. Go to www.Kirbyvanburch.com for more information.

5.  The Hamner's Unbelievable Variety Show -- featuring the illusions of Dave and Denise Hamner -- is still going strong at his theater on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway. See their Website for more details and information: www.hamnersunbelievable.com.

6.  An ensemble magic show -- The Revollusionists -- is still playing at The Music City Center (where Kirby Van Burch and Taylor Reed both used to have their shows). At this time, performing magicians include Reza (Illusionist), Jackson Rayne (Illusionist and Escape Artist), Luka (Slight-of-Hand Specialist), and Kid Kidabra (Bizarre magic). Go to their Website for more info: www.musiccitycenter.com.

There is magic also in various other shows in the area. For instance, we understand the new emcee at the Pierce Arrow Show is also a magician, as is the emcee on the Showboat Branson Belle. To keep up with the magic shows and magicians in the area, check with Yak Williams at his magic store in downtown Branson. That's where the local IBM Ring meets each month, and Yak keeps up with who is doing what and where.
