The Dave Cox Show

Magic. Mirth. Monkeys.

About Dave Cox

Dave is just back from a run on Broadway, and a whirlwind tour of Europe.  But, he has been performing his Mischievous Magical Mayhem professionally for 20 plus years, starting as a wee lad in a teeny tiny top hat, and going on to win multiple awards, direct other magicians’ shows, and perform all over this great country and abroad.  When he was only 10 years old, he took out an ad in the local paper: “Dave Cox: Boy Magician.”  He still occasionally gets a call.

He was awarded the prestigious magician’s award, “Best in the Midwest” at the Midwest Magic Jubilee when he was only 16.  He’s pretty much been riding that ever since.  He continued to perform through high school and into college, working corporate events, banquets, lodges, women’s groups, street fairs, comedy clubs, night clubs, renaissance fairs, and wherever else someone wanted to be delighted and amazed.

Eventually, Dave’s talents brought him to Los Angeles, and he became a proud member of the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, where he still performs regularly. In addition to doing multiple commercials, films, and extensive voice over work, Dave is a professional writer and a skilled improviser, having performed with the Groundlings, Improv Olympic, ComedySportz, bang!, The Second City, Opening Night: The Improvised Musical, The Spontaneous Shakespeare Company, The Liquid Radio Players, and ACME Comedy Theater.  This training and experience is part of what infuses his show with his unique brand of spontaneous charm and wit.

Dave was awarded the Bass Ale Red Triangle Comedy Award in 2004.  In 2005 Dave was honored to be a nominee for “Best Parlour Magician” at the world famous Magic Castle. A multiple nominee, Dave was awarded “Best Improv Performer” at ACME Comedy Theater in 2006, 2009 and 2010.  In 2011, Dave was awarded the trophy for “Best Children’s Performer” for his work with kids around the country.  He was recently nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his work on Broadway.  Dave also has an Emmy.  But he doesn’t think he earned it.

In 2005, Dave became the resident magician at Sea World, San Diego. Continuing his aquatic adventures, Dave set sail and traveled the world for Crystal, Norwegian, and Princess Cruise Lines, performing for over 70,000 people off the coasts of Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Jamaica, Italy,  and Greece in his first year alone.  He is also a highly sought after performer at corporate events, amazing and delighting companies like IBM, Apple, AT&T, RJR Nabisco, and performing at private events for celebrities as varied as Pink, Dick VanPatten, Lucy Liu, and Tom Cruise.

On television, Dave has done major commercials and campaigns for companies such as Red Robin, Panasonic, Arby’s, Kitchenaid and many others.  He hosted the popular show “Arena” on the G-4 Network, and, from 2008 to 2011, he was the host of MTV’s hit show “Is She Really Going Out With Him.”  A handy guy, Dave was the hands for Full Tilt Poker, and also the hands of Dana Carvey in an award winning Lays chips commercial.  Utilizing his experience in comedy, magic, and TV, Dave served as a consultant on VH-1’s hit series “Celebracadabara” and, in 2009, brought three of his original magical performances to “Masters of Illusion.”

He’s come a long way for a farm boy from Illinois.  Dave loves to bring magic into people lives.  It’s about the jaw dropping, stomach clenching, amazing excitement that you get when the impossible happens, right there, right in front of you.  That’s what it’s about.  It’s about magic.
