Cyril the Sorcerer serves up stories of monsters and magic, myth and magicians. Cyril's most requested show is "Recycling is Magic." This is a story of monsters, magic and too much trash. Created for and performed on behalf of the Connecticut Recyclers Coalition, this show teaches the virtue of recycling through its tale of a village beset by ogres. When a wizard scares away the brutes, he is left with the more difficult job of helping the villagers clean up. He learns that making the old into new again, by magic or recycling, is the hero's path. More than 3,000 Connecticut school children, families and others have seen performances of Recycling is Magic. For older children, this 15 minute show leads directly into a discussion of what can be recycled in the immediate community. Cyril's experience as a waste management professional allows him to speak with clarity on the subject. In 2007 Cyril worked with the magicians of IBM Ring 59 to create "Magic Week New Haven," an annual event running during the last 7 days of October. He learned of Magic Week from the Society of American Magicians and its efforts to promote magic during the week leading up to Halloween. During Magic Week New Haven local magicians offer performances in the New Haven Free Public Library and other venues. Cyril is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (Ring 59)and the Society of American Magicians (Assembly 29). He serves as Scribe and Secretary for Ring 59. |
