My heart is sad and heavy this afternoon as I compose this note to report the passing of my friend Sam Schwartz. A true legend in magic, Sam's passing is a terrible loss to the magic community and to me and the rest of my family. Sam was an attorney and had been the attorney for Lou Tannens. He was a very close personal friend of Warren Kaps, Esq., Past National President of the Society of American Magicians. Assembly 274 of the Society was named after Sam. (read more)
Brilliant in his magic, his love for the art spanned over 6 decades and covered countless effects and inventions used by many magicians. His book ,"SAM'S", was released a few years ago in hardback, and it became an instant hit with the magic world that so deeply loved and admired him.
It was my honor to fly to New York to present him a congratulatory plaque three years ago when the Parent Assembly #1 of New York named him the Magician of the Year and paid him honors at the Tribeca Center. The award was given on April 8, 2006 as part of the Annual Salute To Magic Show. Schwartz was the Dean of the Assembly and had been a member for 50 years. What a humble and appreciative man he was, gracious beyond compare.
Sam and Selma Schwartz, the eternal sweethearts, moved from Boynton Beach, Florida to New York to be closer to their only daughter and grandaughter. He is survived by his wife, daughter, grandaughter and son in law.
Please keep Selma, the family and all those of us who knew and loved him so deeply in your prayers; this is truly a terrible, terrible loss. We will miss you Sam. If you would like to leave a comment we invite you to do so by clicking the link below.
