Beau Lotto: Do you
see what he sees?

Beau Lotto, founder of Lottolab, a hybrid art studio and science lab, gave insights into how the brain works through the use of color and lighting to create optical illusions. Lotto gave his "TED Talk" in July, and it was posted to the TED Web site in October.

TED is a nonprofit organization dedicated to "ideas worth spreading." It began in 1984 by bringing together people from three groups: Technology, Education and Design.

In the October issue of The Linking Ring, Jon Racherbaumer talks about the need for magicians, and especially mentalists, to have a broad education. After all, if magicians and mentalists are all-knowing and all-powerful, then they need to come across as well-educated.

Lotto sheds some new light into the brain and how it functions. You might not agree with all of his conclusions, but you can probably use his ideas in your performances. (Click for video)
