Bobby Warren: You best be doing your best
Do your best, please? For me
I would like you to do me a favor: The next time you are hired to perform a show, do your absolute best to thoroughly entertain the audience because my livelihood depends upon it.
Well, sort of.
Dennis Anyone? On turning one hundred
I've been around a long time, only a half-dozen years away from Abraham Lincoln's four score. I've known a number of "old" people over the years, but most of them are (or were) in their eighties, and a few in their nineties. But it occurred to me the other day that I now know several people around and over the one hundred milestone. And that got me to thinking about my own life. More on that later. First, those other people.
Dennis Anyone? Getting the most out of the convention
Can you believe it? The annual convention of the International Brotherhood of Magicians is less than two weeks away. If you HAVEN'T registered yet, you still can. But time is running out (and you'll kick yourself if you miss this one).
But if you HAVE already registered, you may now start thinking ahead to the convention, and about how you can get the most for your investment. Many of you will just arrive at the convention, and sit back and enjoy some terrific magic. But others of you want MORE than that. Here are some tips about how to get the mostt out of the I.B.M. convention.
Dennis Anyone? What to take to IBM convention
I hope you have already registered for the "all-new" I.B.M. Convention in Dallas June 28-July 2, and have started making your plans. It's less than six (6) weeks away, you know! Many of you will just show up, attend most of the sessions and events, and will take home terrific memories of a fantastic experience. BUT, others of you want to get as much out of the convention as possible, which is smart. Since you might be starting a checklist of what to take to the convention, add to your list my list of things and stuff to maximize your magic and convention experience:
Dennis Anyone? Unusual Broken Wand for June, 2011
As I was posting the Broken Wand for the June 2011 issue of The Linking Ring, I realized that it is rather unusual this month, in several ways. I will point these out and discuss them a little, to help you to better understand and appreciate the value and importance of the Broken Wand in The Linking Ring, within the world of magic.
Dennis Anyone? Goodbye Houdini secrets
On March 20, we received word that Dorothy Young had died. The reason we were notified is that she was the last living assistant of Harry Houdini, and may even have been that last living person to have actually known him. My first thought was, "She surely must have been old, since Houdini died in 1926," ... and she was -- 103!
Dennis Anyone?: Magic Cruise thoughts from Stu Lewis
by Dennis Schick, Portal Editor
As soon as I heard about David Sandy's Magic Cruise being on the fateful Carnival Splendor cruise ship, I put out a call for first-hand reports from magicians on that ship. Three of them -- with photos -- appeared in the December issue of The Linking Ring. And Sandy's complete report is included in this portal (see below).
Now comes another report, with personal thoughts from Stu Lewis. Here are his memories:
Holy Magnets Batman!
Turn Colombini's Magnetic
into 'holy' performance
Aldo Colombini's Magnetic effect is what I consider a simplified variation of Paul Curry's Out of this World. It is a red/black divide effect with a deck of cards, and it includes a nice twist.
Present Like Apple's Steve Jobs
How Steve Jobs can
improve your magic
By Bobby Warren
Apple's iconic CEO Steve Jobs has been able to work his magic with an incredible line of products, like the iPod, iPhone, iTouch, iTunes and Macbooks, but did you know chances are he can elevate the quality of your magic show? I believe he can, and I will show you how.
Actually, Carmine Gallo, who runs Gallo Communications and trains CEOs in communication skills, will show you how in a video that appears below. In 2009, Gallo wrote a book titled, "The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs: How to be Insanely Great in Front of Any Audience."
