CAUGHT IN THE ACT
Under Dan Harlan's spell (right), John Sanuy (left) seems to have money to burn.
That's John's $20.00 bill inside those tongs, and John is just inches away with a live flame.
NO JOHN! ** DON'T DO IT! ** IT'S A TRICK!

Magi,

Our meeting on October 13 was attended nicely, but there are still many of you that we miss seeing.

Members in attendance:
Andre Berman
Brad Hatcher
Curt Johnson
Jason Beyers
John Tyler
Keone Valdez
Kristine Valdez
Kipp Sherry
Matt Baldwin
Matt McCarter
and prospective member Emery Holden.

Total attendance: 11

This was a highly energized meeting as we discussed the recent success of our public fund raiser magic show "PHOENIX - Rising From The Ashes". Details of the show can be found in The Linking Ring: Special Events, and at: http://www.KippSherryMagic.info/TVMC/phoenix.htm. The bases for the show was to raise funds for 20 families who totally, or partially lost their homes to one of the worst fire disasters in Boise's history. The show was considered a success on many levels, a great bonding time for our magicians, a great recognition from our community, and a great lesson on what does and does not work in putting together a show. Club President, Andre Berman, presented letters of appreciation to all the magicians who helped with the show. All members who participated in the show and attended the meeting received a free DVD of the performance and a recognition booklet published by the victims of the fire.

We continued to discuss the possibilities of producing a club show on an annual bases, whether it be to raise funds for a community charity or for the club itself. Response was overwhelming and it was agreed that we should proceed with such an project. A search committee will be looking for a venue that we can have every year. We hope to produce a show each summer in the coming years.

We also discussed our clubs Christmas party for this year. It was agreed that we will hold it at our regular meeting location, at the same date and time as our December Meeting (Idaho Pizza Company, December 8 from 7-9pm). We will be inviting family and friends as well as prospective new magicians to our Christmas party.

This was the first year that we implemented dues for active membership. We asked if the members felt that the dues structure had been effective at increasing commitment to the club and if they had seen sufficient benefits from their dues to continue. Everyone agreed that it had met the above goals and that we should continue charging a membership dues. The $25.00 membership dues for 2009 will be due on January 1, 2009. We also discussed new lectures for the next year and how we will go about finding them.

Keone Valdez stepped up to the plate and is going to help implement our new structure for training and awarding magicians, both new and old. He proposed a tier structure training that would accommodate a new magician as they progress from one skill set to the next, as well as helping older magicians expand into new areas of magic and advanced techniques. Our November meeting will host Keone as the featured speaker with the first of these trainings (Impromptu Card Control).

If you haven't been to a meeting for a while, you should come experience all the energy, excitement and support that the T.V.M.C. is creating. Be sure to visit our club web site and bookmark it so you can visit it often. It's a good way to find out what's coming up, what's happened, and how to contact the other members. Members in attendance:
Andre Berman
Bill Meeker
Bob Bishop

Dan McGinley

John Sanuy
John Tyler
Kipp Sherry
Matt Baldwin

Total attendance: 11

This months meeting was focused around our upcoming benefit fund raising show "PHOENIX - Rising From The Ashes.

We spent most of the meeting discussing logistics for the show. 2,000 fliers were handed out and distribution territories assigned. Magicians performing in the show brought their acts with them and we started ruffing out a format for the show. Bob Bishop got access to Cynthia Mann school for a dry run rehearsal on Saturday, September 13th from 3-5pm. Jason Byers stepped in as the choreographer for the show.

All in all, the show is progressing nicely and we are hopeful that we can raise 8-10K for the victims of the Oregon Trail Sweetwater fire.

If you haven't been to a meeting for a while, you should come experience all the energy, excitement and support that the T.V.M.C. is creating.

Magi,

Another light turn out for our August meeting. It must have something to do with summer in the air, and storks making deliveries, and vacations, and working paid gigs, and marketing for more paid gigs, and maybe, just maybe, the high price of gas.

Members in attendance:
Andre Berman
Bill Meeker
John Sanuy
Kipp Sherry
Matt Baldwin
Weseley Hanna

Total attendance: 6

We were hoping for a little better turn out since we held elections for new officers. Those in attendance did cast a ballot. Our paid members who were not in attendance should be on the watch for a ballot to be emailed to them. Please return the email with your vote as quickly as possible so we can tally up the votes. Maybe we can announce the new officers at next months meeting.

Other than that we just had a great time hanging out and sharing the magic. Brad Hatcher, although not in attendance, really shared the magic by getting a gig set up at a local movie theatre. Now he could have kept it all to himself, but he decided to share the spotlight with other magicians at the club. Contact Brad Hatcher if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Kipp Sherry is still working on implementation of an awards system. He has been in contact with other clubs doing similar things in hopes that we can use their model for our club. No need to reinvent the wheel if you don't have to. Keep your ear to the ground for progress reports.

If you haven't been to a meeting for a while, you should come experience all the energy, excitement and support that the T.V.M.C. is creating.

Magi,

Please welcome our newest member, Bill Meeker. Bill just recently moved to Boise and since he is a long standing I.B.M. member he decided to look us up, came to the meeting, paid his dues and joined our club. If you didn't meet Bill at the meeting, take time to send him a warm welcome via email: DocBenWiz@aol.com

Other Members in attendance:
Andre Berman
Bob Bishop
Brad Hatcher
John Sanuy
John Tyler
Kipp Sherry
Matt Baldwin
Nathan Kennard

Total attendance: 9

We were hoping for a little better turn out since what we discussed will effect the clubs direction in the future, but we still had some great ideas from those attending.

Concerning election of new officers, here are the nominations received at last nights meeting:
President - Andre Berman (incumbent)
Vice President - Kipp Sherry (incumbent)
Secretary - Weseley Hanna (incumbent), John Sauney (nominee)
Treasurer - Rick Brittell (incumbent)
Sergeant at Arms - Bill Meeker (nominee)
Dean of Magic - Keone Valdez (incumbent)

We are still accepting nominations through July 31, 2008. We really only had 2 new nominations, so there is room for more. Please send all nominations to Kipp Sherry
Active and Inactive members may make nominations but you may only nominate "Active" members (Active Members being those who have paid their TVMC and IBM dues). Active members may nominate themselves if you wish to hold an office.
Only Active members will be able to vote when we hold our elections at next months meeting on August 11, 2008.
Newly elected officers will take office no later than January 1, 2009.

Concerning the awards for TVMC Magician Of The Year:
Although we did not reach a final consensus on all the details concerning categories and judging criteria, it was generally agreed that this would be a great addition to the club. We had a lively discussion and a lot of great ideas tossed around. Ideas ranged from voting being done by the members of the club, adding live lay audiences to the voting, and even possibly accepting video submissions along with live submissions. We kicked around category ideas including: Close-up, Parlor, Stage, Most Improved, Best in Category, Peoples Choice, and a whole lot more. We are still open to ideas and will seek out advice from other Rings who have similar competitions. Thank you everyone for your great input and enthusiasm.

And of course it was impossible to avoid, but magic started breaking out even while we were still trying to conduct business. Imagine That! But we had to let it go because it was such a refreshing approach. People were not just showing off their latest and greatest, people were actually looking for input. Brad Hatcher was wanting to add a new levitation routine to his act and he brought several different advertisements for the different kinds he was looking at and he wanted the input of other club members. John Tyler, after successfully beating cancer, is trying to rebuild Chemotherapy destroyed brain cells as he sought advice on how others performed the Professor's Nightmare. Matt Baldwin is getting tired of entertaining himself and wants to start entertaining others, so he was seeking advice on how to develop a 30-45 minute routine that he could perform at parties. Bob Bishop was even getting excited about our club putting on another public performance. Bob was very instrumental in organizing and energizing our last public show. I'm totally excited. This is definitely what "magicians helping magicians" is all about.
