President - Keith Bogart
Secretary - George Jones

12 Members 1 guest
LARRY DELLA VECHICCIA performed his first ever teaching table showing us
how to do an easy matchbook mental trick, weighing the matches. He then
showed us linking paperclips in an envelope. Larry not only did a great
job, he also reminded us the easiest tricks still get great reactions.
The IBM South Carolina Territorial Vice-President, Tony Metz will visit us
on April 7, 2008 to swear in the new slate of officers who was unanimously
voted in. Best wishes go out to Keith Bogart, President, Ed Hay,
Vice-President, George Jones, Secretary, Sandy Fearns, Treasurer and Larry
Della Vechiccia, Sergeant of Arms.
Gary Maurer announced Friday, May 9, 2008 will be our next Magic show to
help raise money for the Bluffton Elementary PTO. Performers and time are
undetermined at this time.
KEITH BOGART Presented President George Jones an IBM Past President's
Medal, as this is his last meeting as President.
Our featured Spotlite performance was Richard Spiers. Our rope magic
specialist shared his wonderful stage performance from last year's show. He
showed us how to do various knots tricks, including one handed knots, bow
tie knots, and The William Tell Knot just to name a few. We all had a good time
trying to do what Richard made look so easy.
Refreshment break provided by Ed Hay.
MEMBER MAGIC:
MICK AYERS started off a very busy Member Magic slate with his specialty,
a deck of cards with a mental twist. Mick wrote down card numbers on a
piece of paper and gave Ed Hay a shuffled deck. When Ed dealt the cards the
values were the same written on the paper, including the card chosen card by
Ed.

ED HAY then showed us his flash one dollar bill to 100 dollar bill. It
literally was in a flash. He then performed a Paul Harris Classic,
Sunglasses.

BILL GRIFFEN hates anything that has to do with cards or card tricks for
that matter. This is why it was unbelievable to see him perform Barry
Mitchell's "Fastest Card Trick In The World"

KEITH BOGART had one card lead to another card to finally reveal the
chosen card with the classic Pet Deck.

MR. FUNNYBONZ(Chip) made a silk disappear and reappear utilizing a change
bag.

GEORGE NOTARAS offered us a few mental routines, dollar in Orange,
Mentally divined a number in an envelope and Bank Night. There were some
great classic effects professionally done.

MIKE PERKINS stole a memory from Gary Maurer's mind performing Jay Sankey's,
Memory Lapse.

And finally GEORGE JONES showed us how to use a thumb tip by revealing a
really giant, oversized thumb tip. He also showed us his next creation,
color fusion. A color changing deck. He ended presenting a quick coin
trick.

This was one of our best member magic sessions in a long time. Let's show
the same enthusiasm for our April 7th meeting.

Seven is a lucky number, and so are those who attended our April 7 meeting
celebrating our seventh year as an IBM ring. Joining us was our special
guest, Tony Metz, South Carolina Territorial IBM Vice-President, who swore
in our newly elected officers: Dr Keith Bogart, President, Ed Hay,
Vice-President, George Jones, Secretary, Sandy Fearns, Treasurer, and Larry
, Sergeant of Arms. Were were pleased to have a visit from past member, Tony
Barker.
Donnie Hodges' teaching table included a one handed deck shuffle and a
couple of coin flourishes, coin roll and coin star.
Jessica Reed Lecture will be held on June 6 at the usual place.
The Fundraiser show for the Bluffton Elementary PTO, Will take place on
Friday, May 9th, at Bluffton High School. The cast was presented by show
committee chair, Gary Maurer.
Our Spotlite performer, Gary Maurer performed two astounding, mental acts
that utilized most of the audience and used minimal props. First up was
divining a serial number from a dollar bill from a choice of eight member's
dollar bills. Last man standing held the divined serial number. Maurer
then turned a close up effect"No Chanz" into a stage sized act featuring
jumbo dice, a large Vetas style 'hourglass' mixer, and six paper bags. The
last bag left to Gary held his missing keys. What a coincidence!
Keith Bogart started off a very busy slate of member magic with two of Alan
Warner's collectible pieces, "Talisman" and "Voodoo." These hand crafted,
wooden mental effects are worth the price for the reaction Keith received.
Tony Metz created delight with Danny Archer's "Birthday Banner." This is
truly a great magic routine for a kids birthday party where birthday cards
instantly becomes a huge happy birthday celebration.
Another one of our guests, Don Ackers, performed "Rope through Body", Pearl
Animals from a necklace, and "Hopping Dominos"
Bill Griffin showed off a simple way to float a CD.
Michael Perkins devastated everyone with Geoff Williams' self working card
trick "Devastation."
Richard Spiers' silver/copper coin routine was pure magic
Mick Ayres showed off his own "Subliminal Message" from "Steve Beam's
"Semi-Automatic Card Tricks" volume 6. He used a simple prop to make an
already strong mental effect turn into a miracle.
Donnie Hodges returned showing memorabilia from the 70's hit show, "The
Magician."
Larry Della Vechiccia ended the evening with a clever handling of the
Chinese Levitating box.
If this meeting is any indication of how the rest of the year will go, we
are in store for another great year of magic

JULY 7,2008

Ring 349, Hilton Head Island, SC
Society of Lowcountry Magicians
Meets 1st Monday of each Month, Sea Pines Community Room
President - Keith Bogart
Secretary - George Jones

Our July meeting began with, our Secretary, George "Mr. Magic" Jones treating us to another one of his fantastic lectures. What makes Jones' lecture so special is most of his props are home made and his creativity is very clever. Some of the highlights were his three phrase "No gimmick Linking Rope" routine that has to be seen to believe. He also showed quite a few card tricks including a couple of amazing color changing decks and “Disappearing Coin Pip”. George took "Miser's Dream" to a new level with his home made pail and some creative manipulation. He concluded with what could possibly one of the most easiest and deceptive mental clipboards effect with George predicting any two digit number predicted by spectator. To find out more contact George at GJones5935@aol.com
After a quick refreshment break Michael Lance Perkins kicked off his spotlight performance with quite an unusual sideshow atmospheric approach. He started off with Doug Higley’s “3 No Evil” an eerie shrunken head routine. He then showed the mysterious “Haunted Ghost Bottle of Persia” (genie bottle). A very simple prop still gets a lot of mileage with a little fun. Perkins the used the remains of the Gypsy Finger to have a selected Tarot card rise in the middle of a the Tarot deck. He concluded with his “Whispering Wishing Frog” A spectator’s wish is revealed by Anura, a stone statue of a old wise frog from found in Nepal. Michael also bought along some strange artifacts to top off his show of Oddities from around the World. Due to time constraints Member Magic was limited to one of our guests, Mattie Hay. Mattie performed a card effect where she spelled out the name of a chosen card. Go Mattie. Perhaps we have another future youth member in the making.

magically removed it from the bottle, way to go girl.

discussed our October 24 show and set the performers, as well as our October

Louisville, KY. This was the 1st such combined convention in 35 years.

from our May 9 benefit show at the Bluffton High School. We broke for
refreshment provided by Sandy Fearns.

illusion - smiling girl and angry man. Ed Hay performed two outstanding
effects - Hornsworggled, where money was counted over and over wrong, and
the six bill repeat done Grandfather style. George Jones performed coins
across and showed us how to get money out of a woman's hand. Fred Reisz

chained deck.
