Below is the press release which will be used to promote the Jackie's Magic 2010 Food Drive. This event which is held in honor of my daughter, Jackie, will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The event will be held in the auditorium at Warren High School (O'Plaine Campus) in Gurnee, Illinois. ….The illusionist’s routine moves at a breathtaking pace; light and fire appearing out of nowhere and disappearing in a flash. Just as suddenly, a walking cane twirls from the magician’s fingertips. After a spin and a flourish, he tosses the cane to his assistant, the magician’s teenage daughter, who momentarily steals the show with radiant showmanship. As the routine comes to its climax, he produces another cane, and they pose together in a shower of confetti and sparks. The spectator would now expect a bow from the performers to signify a job well done, but rather, our impetuous young assistant begins a mock sword fight with the canes. After a brisk “en guarde” and a little comical jousting, father and daughter take a quick bow. The curtain closes to thunderous applause….. Greetings! My name is Jim Stanislawski, AKA Jim Stan Magic Man, and my mischievous assistant is my daughter Jackie. I truly believe that the aforementioned stage routine was our best magical performance ever. Jackie’s enthusiasm and youthful exuberance added a polished exclamation point to my magical performance. Tragically, the routine will never have the same elements of energy and radiance. Jackie died in a horrible auto accident on December 7, 2003. When the accident occurred, Jackie had taken it upon herself to launch her own food drive, to support local families during the holiday season. She had been doing this without anyone’s knowledge. In a grief-stricken, curious meeting of the minds, we created “Jackie’s Magic” a food drive/magic show that combines our love of magic and Jackie’s commitment to charity and service. In appreciation for a donation of non-perishable food items (or a cash donation) participants will be treated to a 90-minute magic show featuring world famous Marshall Brodien (Wizzo from Bozo Circus) and Mark & Sue Holstein. Appearing for the first time this year will be nationally recognized comedy ventriloquist Chuck Fields and some of the finest magical talent available including Joe Diamond, The Balsters, Magic Sam and others. There will also be close-up magic performers and balloon artists who will provide pre-show entertainment. We cannot believe the amount of help we have received from the magic community with regards to this event. It is to the point now where we get more performers offering to help than we have time available in the show. This shows how close our magic community really is. This is the third year that Marshall Brodien and Mark Holstein have offered their help. It makes us proud to know that people like this are so willing to help us honor our daughter’s memory by helping those in need. The size of the event has grown in popularity each year which has necessitated the use of a larger facility. Mayor Krysti Kovarik was instrumental in bringing this event to Gurnee. The High School Superintendent, Dr. Sobocinski has graciously permitted the use of the O’Plaine campus auditorium of Warren High School for this event, which will be the perfect venue for an evening of magic and illusion. Katie Schober and the EXCEL club from Warren Township High School have joined with us this year. The high school students will be participating by running the tech crews for lights and sound as well as providing a hand in collecting the food. The community is stepping up their efforts this year to help fill the local food pantry prior to the upcoming holiday season. Currently most local food pantries have been running very low on donations. Jackie always tried to make a difference, and we wanted to continue her efforts. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! |
