And here's something FREE to try out on your friends on their birthday (you can even do this OVER THE PHONE): Geoff’s Happy Birthday Card Trick Adapted by Geoff Williams from "Remote Control" by Jim Steinmeyer, a technical advisor for magician David Copperfield. 1) Find a deck of cards (doesn't have to be a complete deck). 2) Discard any jokers and information (non-playing) cards. 3) Shuffle the deck thoroughly. 4) Deal 2 face-down piles of 9 cards each (Set the other cards off to one side; you won't be needing them from here on out). 5) Select one of the piles. 6) Hold it face down with both hands. 7) Mix up the cards while holding them face down (don't look at any of them). 8) Square up the packet and, keeping it face down, peek at the bottom card. REMEMBER IT! SHOW IT TO A FRIEND IF YOU MUST! WRITE IT DOWN IF YOU HAVE TO but for Pete’s sake, whatever you do... DON’T FORGET IT!! If you forget the name of your card, the end of this trick will seem rather stupid. 9) Place the packet in your hands on top of the packet on the table, making a single, face-down pile. 10) Pick up the pile and hold them in “dealing position” face-down in your left hand. 11) Deal cards one at a time into a single face-down pile as you spell the name of your card silently (spell it completely, as in A-C-E O-F S-P-A-D-E-S). 12) Take the cards left in your hands and place them all on top of the dealt down pile. 13) Pick up the pile. 14) Now we're going to program a magic word into it (after all, it is a magic trick). Spell "G-E-O-F-F" (an extremely magic word, don’t you think?), dealing a card for each letter into a face-down pile. 15) Place the packet in your hands on top of the packet on the table and pick up the pile again. 16) Next, you will repeat the spelling/dealing procedure but you will spell either "RED CARD" or "BLACK CARD", whichever is applicable to your selection (be honest). 17) Place the packet in your hands on top of the packet on the table and pick up the pile one last time. 18) Since this is a Happy Birthday card trick, repeat the spelling/dealing procedure as you spell "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". 19) Take the next card in hand (without looking at it), say the name of your card aloud. 20) Turn the card in your hand around. 21) Have a Happy Birthday! |
